DECODING SUBCLASS 485 VISA UPDATES

The Australian Government’s recent migration strategy has brought forth significant reforms, particularly impacting international students. Among these changes, the revisions to the 485 visa stand out as pivotal adjustments set to come into effect in 2024. This blog will dissect the key modifications and their implications for prospective students planning to pursue education in Australia.

One of the most notable alterations is the reduction in the age limit for visa applicants to under 35 years, down from the previous threshold of 50. Additionally, the duration of visa extensions varies based on the level of education attained:

  • 2 Years for Bachelor Degree
  • 2 Years Masters by Coursework
  • 3 Years for Masters by Research
  • 3 Years for PhD

Moreover, there have been revisions to the English language proficiency requirements.

  • The minimum IELTS score elevated to 6.5
  • The validity period of English test results has also been reduced from three years to one year.
  • Furthermore, eligibility for a second Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV) has been adjusted, offering an additional one to two years for study in regional areas, contingent on the location.

In line with these changes, the TGV will undergo a renaming process to ‘Post-higher Education Work’ and ‘Post-Vocational Education Work’ streams. Additionally, the ‘Replacement Streams’ of the TGV and subclass 476 visa will be abolished, and restrictions will be imposed on Temporary Graduate visa holders from transitioning back to student visas while in Australia.

For international students navigating through these complexities, seeking guidance from a registered MARA Agent is imperative for a stress-free and flawless processing experience. Reach out to us to explore your options and embark on your educational journey in Australia with confidence.
